Monterey Jazz Festival: 50th Anniversary Tour
Tuesday, January 22, 2008 | 8 PM

The longest continually-running jazz festival in the world, the Monterey Jazz Festival celebrates its 50th anniversary with a national tour. Maintaining Monterey's tradition of uniting veterans and breakouts, the show stars Terence Blanchard (trumpet), James Moody (saxophone), Benny Green (piano), Nnenna Freelon (vocals), Derrick Hodge (bass) and Kendrick Scott (drums). These artists have strong connections with the Festival and embody its scope and history - Blanchard is 2007 Artist in Residence at Monterey, Moody has been performing at Monterey since 1963, Green was part of the Monterey Jazz Festival High School All Star Big Band, Freelon has been a regular performer at Monterey Jazz and Scott performed with the Berklee-Monterey Quartet. www.montereyjazzfestival.org

And if you, like the Monterey Jazz Festival, are celebrating your 50th birthday in 2008, you can qualify to win prizes including a quarter carat diamond and gold heart pendant worth over $500 from Hodgkins Jewelers or golf for two at Rancho Vista Golf Course with lunch at Cascades Grill!

Classical in intent, eclectic by design, Quartetto Gelato not only thrills audiences with their exotic blend of musical virtuosity and artistic passion, but offers the wonderfully unexpected bonus of a brilliant operatic tenor. The group’s repertoire travels imaginatively between classical masterworks, operatic arias and the sizzling energy of tango, gypsy and folk songs, while their relaxed stage presence and delightful humor establishes an immediate rapport with traditional and non-traditional classical audiences alike. www.quartettogelato.ca

Jacalyn Kane Productions Presents
The Legendary Leon Russell
in Concert
Thursday, January 31, 2008 | 8:00 PM

Leon Russell's long and storied career includes collaborations with a virtual who's who of music icons spanning from Jerry Lee Lewis to Willie Nelson to Joe Cocker and the Rolling Stones. But it was his touching lyrics and charmingly gravelly voice with its rustic yet rich swamp pop fusion of country, blues and gospel that made him a 60’s & 70’s Rock icon in his own right. Join us for an unforgettable evening with an extraordinary artist.
