Mariachi Los Camperos

Considered by many to be the finest mariachi ensemble in the world, Los Angeles–based Mariachi Los Camperos brings more than six decades of artistry, dignity, and heart to the LPAC stage — on the Friday before Mother’s Day, no less!

Founded in 1961 by the late Nati Cano, a third-generation mariachi musician from Jalisco, Los Camperos has played a central role in elevating both the artistic standards and the public perception of mariachi music — now recognized by UNESCO as a masterpiece of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Today, the ensemble is led by Cano’s longtime disciple Jesús “Chuy” Guzmán, whose vision and arrangements have shaped the group’s recent Grammy-nominated and Grammy-winning recordings on Smithsonian Folkways, including Amor, Dolor y Lágrimas and the latest, De Ayer Para Siempre.

Expect classic sones, rancheras, and boleros — the very songs that have saturated Mexican history with passion, longing, and joy — performed with the unmatched musicianship of an ensemble that, in the words of The National Folk Festival, is simply “the finest in the world.”
